Race Report by Kirsten Robbins
US National Criterium Champion Tina Pic of the Colavita/Sutter Home Women’s Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light handily won the break sprint to take the Beaufort Criterium victory. Tina followed an attack initiated by Rebecca Larson (Aaron's), which turned into the winning break away. "Rebecca attacked and since I was essentially following her around, I jumped on her wheel and off we went,” said Tina after her podium presentation. "Laura Van Gilder bridged across to us and the three of us worked together until the end. Rebecca pulled around and into the last corner and I jumped on the last straight away." Tina's teammates at Beaufort included Tiffany Cromwell, distinguished as Best Young Rider in the series, Iona Wynter Parks, Shontell Gauthier, and Nicky Wangsgard.
In the men's race, Kyle Wamsley of the Colavita/Sutter Home Men’s Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light captured 2nd place in the field sprint after spending most of the 75-lap criterium in a 40-minute breakaway with teammate Davide Frattini. The lengthy breakaway of six riders returned to the chasing peloton with 30 laps to go, enough time to set up their sprinter for a victory. "We thought the break was going to stay away and gained a lot of time on the field," said Davide. "But once we started to lap the large groups of riders off the back, crashes were happening and we were held up by the lead car." With the field intact, Kyle’s Colavita/Sutter Home teammates Sebastian Haedo, Luca Damiani, Anibal Borrajo, Gustavo Artacho and Frattini set him up with a five-lap leadout train. Kyle sprinted in for 2nd place on the podium, followed closely by Sebastian in 4th.
