USA National Criterium Championships

In the women’s race-

Colavita/Sutter Home presented by Cooking Light’s Tina Pic wins the USA National Criterium Championships to claim her fifth stars and strips jersey in six years.

It turned into a race of attrition due to high winds, rain and construction on the backside of a technical circuit. Colavita/Sutter Home presented by Cooking Light women’s squad lined Alison Powers, Sarah Tillotson and Andrea Dvorak to successfully bring Tina Pic to the line for her fifth national criterium title.

“I was a little worried because I like to be through the last corner in first place,” said Tina who entered the last corner in third position with a gap to close. “I was thinking, the line is right there, it’s either now or never.”

Alison Powers placed 13th after an unbelievable lead out and Sarah Tillotson followed close behind in 33rd.

In the men’s race-

The Colavita/Sutter Home presented by Cooking Light lined up a stellar mens team that included Alejandro Action, Charles Dionne, Gustavo Artacho, Adam Bergman, Johnny Clarke and Luca Damiani.

Undesirable weather conditions combined with construction between turns seven and eight caused a string of crashes throughout the men’s high-speed race for the criterium national title. The men sent riders off on solo attacks to set up and take the pressure off of their sprinters for the finale.

Johnny Clarke and Gustavo Artacho finished 27th and 31st respectively.
