St. Georges du Beauce, Quebec
Race Report by Kirsten Robbins
Charles DionneCharles Dionne of the Colavita/Sutter Home Men’s Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light claims the mantle of 2007 Canadian National Criterium Champion. Known as one of the strongest sprinters in North America, Charles cemented his position as he sprinted to victory in the Canadian criterium championships. The men competed on a 1.2-kilometer circuit in a race that totaled 54 kilometers. “It was a strong headwind and false flat on the finish straight,” Charles said. The French-Canadian found himself in a break away just four laps into the race. “We were caught with five laps to go and I was in third position toward the finish. I started my sprint with 200-meters to go and won from there.”
In the women’s Canadian National Criterium Championship event, Alex Wrubleski of the Colavita/Sutter Home Women’s Cycling Team took her consecutive silver medal. The women raced on the same circuit in a race that totaled 42 kilometers. Alex was one of only 11 riders completing the tough criterium and sprinted to a podium place.
